8:58 p.m. Well, a year has gone by since the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks. I made a speech for the anniversary at school today. Here it is: (P. S. Sathaya said it was "perfect." Yay!
It was a year ago today that all of our lives profoundly changed. The attack on the World Trade Centers had a different effect on all of us, but a change was inevitable the moment we saw those two twin towers collapse. It marked an ending for many, this is true, but looking in retrospect we can let it be a beginning as well. I urge all of you sitting before me today to let this solemn day be an awakening for you. Let it be a chance to realize how grateful you are that you are alive, and that the world was not lost to you last year. Think back about all of the things you were able to do this past year. I bet you laughed a little bit, and maybe you cried too, but all of these things that you have done, were a gift, nonetheless, because you were blessed with the luck to be sitting in front of a television screen a year ago, and not in those twin towers, or on one of the flights that went down. I know that is what I thought about when I saw the towers go down last year. I looked around me, I saw my friends and my family safe and sound next to me, and thanked God for my blessings. I ask all of you to do the same, for this anniversary. |
